According to the High Court, it is natural for a husband to reprimand his wife when she is caught in an illicit affair. Scolding her for such a relationship is not an instigation to commit suicide as per the law.

The prosecution made allegations of abetment of suicide against the husband and the in-laws. They alleged that she was harassed and tortured for the extra-marital affair by them.

Court noted that her illicit act would affect the family adversely. Such an illegal relationship breaks the bond between the husband and the wife.

And in the present case, the court found that the illegal relationship was already proven.

The court defined abetment as some provocation by the acts of the perpetrator that would have forced someone to commit suicide.

Also, one of the co-accused, the sister of the husband, was held not guilty as she was living separately for a long. And even had she scolded the deceased wife, that would have amounted to abetment.

The court held that scolding the wife will not be termed as an abetment to suicide and quashed the proceedings.
